• Details:  Authentic vintage soup crocks from one of the many California USA Potteries, crafted in a white, linear patterned ceramic, with lid and dual "ear" handles. This set of two ovenproof bowls is a RARE find, especially in this condition.  They exemplify early California dinnerware design, perfect for French onion soup, bisques, thick stews, and consommés, or everyday dining. Each piece bears a mark, reflecting quality craftsmanship from an era when functional tableware was built to last. Ideal for collectors seeking genuine vintage pottery or anyone appreciating timeless ceramic design with practical appeal.  These can also be used for individual pot pies and casseroles.  Excellent for USA art pottery collectors.  Collectors, please note the markings and style: "Calif USA 857 Ovenproof", plus these have a unique rounded "button" knob on lid.  We also carry similar, but not identical bowls, (also #857), which have a linear patterned knob on lid, a cut-out for spoon, and larger protruding handles.

• Condition:  Vintage - Used.  Very Good Vintage Condition. California USA Pottery is simply a mark, there was never a California USA Pottery Company that produced these wares.  Some marks you may find from California potters are: Cal., Calif., California, some include USA, or the mold number, like this one.  Most of these items were utilitarian, created for everyday use, the maker was not important.  Since it's almost impossible to know who made these wonderful pieces of craftsmanship and nostalgia, collectors tend to look for design, purpose, pieces that are aesthetically pleasing, rather than a specific maker.
